Burlington reads as the eastern bookend of the Triad to us — twenty-some minutes from the Battleground yard up I-40/I-85, and a city with two completely different sides depending on the address. Wesley Holloway has been running Best Bet Moving and Labor since 2014, and our crew works Burlington often enough that we map a job by neighborhood before we map it by ZIP. A move out of the brick mill houses near downtown and Lakeside, off Webb Avenue or around the old Glencoe village, looks nothing like a four-bedroom out by the Tanger Outlets or down the Western Loop in one of the newer Alamance Crossing subdivisions. We plan both, and we run both with our own trucks and our own W-2 crew.
Two Burlingtons, one written number
The older Burlington blocks — Lakeside Avenue, the downtown grid around Main, the mill-village streets — give us mature oaks shading the curb, narrow driveways with deep front porches, and homes built before HVAC, which means tight upstairs hallways and steep stair runs. The newer Burlington — out toward Mebane on the Western Loop, the subdivisions off Garden Road, the builds near Elon — gives us wider streets, attached garages, and HOA gates that need to be cleared in advance. Same flat written rate either way, and the access tradeoffs are spelled out in your estimate, not sprung on you at the curb.
- Mill-house staircases: the brick homes around Lakeside and the Glencoe area run two stories with steep, narrow staircases — we pad the rail, pre-rig stair tools, and assign a third hand to the carry when the layout asks for it.
- Downtown loft entries: a handful of Main Street buildings near the Paramount have freight-elevator windows that the building manager has to clear ahead of time. Our office handles the COI and the slot.
- Western Loop new builds: the master-planned tracts off Garden Road and the I-40 exits toward Mebane stage easily — we just clear the gate code and HOA move window before the truck rolls.
- Labor-only off rental trucks: a lot of Burlington families rent a truck themselves and hire us hourly to load it. That’s what the labor-only rate is for, and it runs lower than a full move because we’re not bringing a rig.
Pricing for a Burlington address
✓ Our own trucks, with Best Bet movers on our W-2 payroll
- Ring the office and Wesley or somebody else from the Battleground Avenue team picks up in person — never a rented call floor in another state
- The figure on the written estimate is the figure you settle on at the door, full stop — no surprise stair fee, no overweight surcharge, no padded line slid quietly onto the invoice.
- The same Best Bet crew packs the house, fills the truck and walks the boxes back inside at the destination, with no swap at any point
- $1M of cargo coverage rides every load, and any COI your HOA or downtown high-rise needs goes out the same business day
- If anything goes sideways, Wesley handles the claim directly out of the Greensboro office, and it never bounces around a third-party desk
× Broker chain
- Hand those same details to a broker and they bounce across a call floor before getting auctioned to whichever carrier underbids the rest.
- Surprise “assessment fees” tacked onto the invoice the minute the truck rolls up
- An unmarked truck pulls in carrying a crew nobody at the office can really vouch for
- The COI and the HOA paperwork get dumped back on you to chase down before the elevator opens
- A broken heirloom brushed aside with a “that crew was not really ours” line and a phone number that goes to voicemail
Wesley puts one number on paper before move day and it holds. Hourly on a full move runs $115/hr for two movers, $160/hr for three, $205/hr for four. Hourly labor-only (you supply the truck, our crew does the lifting) runs $95/hr for two, $130/hr for three, $165/hr for four. Flat bands by home size:
| Burlington home | Flat rate |
|---|---|
| 1-bedroom mill house near Lakeside | $640–$1,040 |
| 2-bedroom downtown loft on Main | $1,040–$1,700 |
| 3-bedroom Colonial near Elon | $1,700–$2,780 |
| 4-bedroom Western Loop new build | $2,720–$4,300 |
Upright piano $275–$450, baby grand $470–$820 — folded into the same total. Climate-controlled storage if dates slip: $95–$230 a month by unit size.
What’s covered, written into the bill of lading
Every Burlington shipment we carry rides under $1M in cargo coverage. By federal rule, released value sits at $0.60 per pound unless you upgrade. Full-value protection runs an additional 1–3% and gives you repair or replacement on damage. You keep a nine-month claim window. Those four numbers are federal — every legit mover quotes them the same way.
Headed out of Burlington for the long haul
A fair share of Burlington customers don’t stay in Alamance County. We run the long lanes ourselves on our own equipment: I-85 down to Charlotte (115 miles from Burlington), I-40 east to Raleigh (50 miles), US-29 up through Danville to Richmond, VA (140 miles), and I-40 west to Asheville (185 miles). The crew that loads your house off Webb Avenue is the same crew unloading at the destination. Nothing interlined, no agent network, no relabeling at a Greensboro warehouse. Call [bc_phone] and we’ll write your Burlington number.
